美国纽约当地布朗克斯动物园宣布一只老虎新冠检测呈阳性,这是全球首次发现老虎感染新冠病毒病例。
A tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York City has tested positive for the new coronavirus, in what is believed to be the first known infection in an animal in the U.S. or a tiger anywhere, federal officials and the zoo said Sunday. The 4-year-old Malayan tiger named Nadia — and five other tigers and lions that have also fallen ill — are believed to have been infected by a zoo employee who wasn't yet showing symptoms, the zoo said in a news release. The first animal started showing symptoms March 27, and all are doing well and expected to recover, said the zoo.“Though they have experienced some decrease in appetite, the cats at the Bronx Zoo are otherwise doing well under veterinary care and are bright, alert, and interactive with their keepers. It is not known how this disease will develop in big cats since different species can react differently to novel infections, but we will continue to monitor them closely and anticipate full recoveries,” the zoo said. The zoo has been closed to the public since March 16 amid the surging coronavirus outbreak in New York.
