Chinanews, Tianjin, August 30 – Averagely 6,800 Chinese fall sick every day due to abuse of medicine, 14% of whom will eventually die because of this.It is estimated that 30% of Chinese families use medicine inappropriately, which has led to many tragedies. For example, annually more than 10,000 kids are deafened by the abuse of antibiotics. Statistics show that 80% of in-patients in China have taken antibiotics while the proportion in the US is only 20%, and the international proportion is only 30%.In fact, not many Chinese know how to use medicine properly, yet the heavy medical expenses force them to seek help at pharmacies instead of doctors when they fall sick.It is strongly recommended that the government should start a campaign to pass on to the general public the basic knowledge of proper use of medicine. Besides, new regulations on medicare should be issued to guarantee an economical and dependable medical service.
