Chinanews, Guangzhou, July 26 - Every year more than 2,000 people in Shenzhen take their own lives, even more than the death toll in traffic accidents. In 2006 for example, traffic accidents killed 910 people in Shenzhen.Most of suicides in Shenzhen occur among the middle class people, who are under heavier social pressures. Besides, most Shenzhen citizens are immigrants from other parts of China, who don't have many friends and relatives there, which means that most Shenzheners don't have people to listen to their complaints. Fast pace of life in Shenzhen only adds to their problems. No wonder there are so many people suffering from depression.In China, there are 250 thousand people committing suicide every year, the top of the world. In Guangdong alone, some 100 thousand people try to kill themselves every year, with some 20,000 succeeding their attempts.Experts suggest that Shenzhen municipal government should work out a plan to guide those who want to commit suicide, before the problem undermines social stability.
