The company StoreDot believes that by using nano-technology it has developed a way to make batteries that take just 30 seconds to be fully charged.
While the prototype is currently too bulky for a mobile phone, the company hopes to produce slim batteries for commercial use by 2016.
The innovation is based around the creation of nano-dots, which StoreDot describes as bio-organic peptide molecules. Nano-dots alter the way a battery behaves to allow the rapid absorption and the retention of power.
Doron Myersdorf, StoreDot's founder and chief executive, hopes that the technology could someday benefit electric cars, which he believes can be charged in two or three minutes.
