Chinanews, Beijing, May 18 – Currently people are arguing about the preservation of houses in Beijing's hutongs, and our reporter talked with Luo Zhewen, director of China's Cultural Relics Research Center, and he held that decision of preservation should be made by experts as well as common citizens.Luo said that privately owned old houses as part of the cultural heritage should be preserved by local governments and private houses should not be renovated or pulled down. He pointed out that those illegal buildings should be destroyed by governments.Luo also revealed that people should obey regulations on cultural relics preservation, including the courtyard houses in the hutong.
