However, expensive rents usually force two or more of them to share an apartment. Interestingly, it has become fashionable for young people to share apartments with an apartment-mate of the opposite sex.Our reporter has logged on several online forums where people post solicitations for apartment-mates, finding that only 10% of them wish to share their apartment with someone of the same sex.Mostly, well-educated young men (82% of them under 32) with no girlfriends would like to share their apartments with young women. Statistics also show that 72% of them have no intention to buy houses in the next 3 years.However, young women don't care much about the gender of their future apartment-mates, though quite a lot of them would like to have male apartment-mates. "I have a bad temper, thus I often quarrel with girls, but boys are more tolerant. Besides, sharing an apartment with a man will give me a strong sense of security," said Li, a girl who wishes to rent a room in the Chaoyang District of Beijing.
