Chinanews, Hong Kong, December 17 – The future of Chang'e-1, China's first lunar orbiter, is yet to be decided after the lunar probe mission is completed. One choice is to lower its location to take a closer look at the moon until it crashes into the moon, meanwhile the data of the composition of the lunar surface will be also acquired. The other choice is to send Chang'e-1 into deeper space to probe other planets. At present, the Chang'e-1 is in perfect motion. It took only one orbit adjustment to send it into the correct position, instead of the planned 3, thus the fuel will last 2 years longer than expected.According to Song Liding, the director of the No. 513 Institute of China Aerospace & Technology Group, if there is enough fuel left and the solar panel is in good working order, the researchers might consider sending Chang'e-1 to the Mars, or change its orbit around the moon, the earth, the Mars and the sun.Other researchers gave no comment on the above statement, but they say that it is possible for China to control a lunar orbiter to move to other planets, depending on how much fuel will be left when its current mission is completed.
