Chinanews, Beijing, Jun. 19 – Liu Jian, director of The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and the Coordination Group said on Monday that 530 thousand people had applied to be Olympic volunteersLiu said that the recruitment procedures for Olympic volunteers included registration, review, examination, background check and acceptance notification, and there are 306 thousand people in Beijing and more than 30 thousand from Hong Kong and Macau applying for the volunteers work.The volunteers for the Olympics will provide voluntary services at the designated stations around the competition venues and the key areas of the city to ensure the smooth progress of the Games and regular operations of the city during the 2008 Olympic Summer Games and Paralympic Games.More than 20 thousand candidates have been chosen to be the volunteers for urban services.
