Chinanews, Zhengzhou, March 9 – Shang Suyun, an 80-year-old lady in Zhengzhou has embroidered 2,008 butterflies on a 26.7-m-long piece of white cloth, as a gift for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.It took her more than two years to finish this amazing project (from September 12, 2004 to March 6, 2007).The pattern of the embroidery was designed by her grandson, and absorbed several Olympic elements. Besides butterflies of different sizes and colors, a stadium, the five rings, icons representing all the 35 events, the date of the Games, and the 2008 Olympic Slogan: “One World, One Dream” can all be seen on the work. Shang even managed to put “anti-doping”it, too, to call for a clean Olympic.“We were even unable to count how many butterflies there were on the embroider,” said Du, Shang's daughter.Shang never went to school, and she learned embroider from her surrogate mother. “I suddenly felt that I must do something when I heard the news that Beijing would host the 2008 Games. In fact, I have never made anything that big,” said Shang with a smile.
