Chinanews, Aug. 14 – In 1995, construction of the 522-kilometer road in the Taklimakan Desert was completed, which was regarded as a miracle in road construction history. In 2006, a 47,000-mu ecological forest was set up in the desert, to the astonishment of the world.Our reporter visited the forest recently. Xu Xinwen, an expert from the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that after scientific breakthrough, planting trees to fix the sand dunes has proven to be effective.He also revealed that the desert will never want for water, for there are at least 8 trillion tons of underground water there, only the chemical materials it contains make it difficult to plant any trees or grasses.Scientists have chosen 88 kinds of plants in the past 10 years, and currently local people can find snakes and rabbits in the desert.
