Dey, the secretary-general of Global Tiger Forum, said that currently there are 5,000-5,500 wild tigers worldwide, scattered in India, China, Russia, Nepal and 15 other countries.But he also pointed out that the species of wild tiger are continuously declining, which has put many countries on the alert. He said that the international society has paid exerted great efforts to cope with this issue, and many public activities have also been made to urge nations to accede to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of World Fauna and Flora (CITES).China has improved its wild animal protection endeavors since the 1980s, and currently it has four subspecies of Manchurian Tiger, South China Tiger, Indochina Tiger and Bengal Tiger.
