Chinanews, Beijing, Jun. 14 – A 20-year-old man in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province revealed that tap water at his home was very dirty, and he was reluctant to use it.According to China Youth Daily, more than 300 villagers in Xishuangbanna now fetch water from wells, and they reveal that pesticide has polluted drinkable water in the reservoir. But since the supply of well water can’t be guaranteed regularly, now some villagers have to buy mineral water from the supermarkets.Rubber production has been popular in Xishuangbanna, and there are 3 million mu of new rubber plantations, according to statistics. A villager said some local people can sell 2,000 yuan worth of rubber per day, and the village has become prosperous from rubber planting. Some of them have even bought cars or motorcycles.Negative consequences from rubber planting can also be detected. Pesticide has been used in many places, causing kinds of animals and plants nearly to die out. Now villagers can hardly to find the trace of tigers, deers, or even birds around the village.
