Chinanews,Beijing, April 23 - The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) has prepared some 30 million pots of flowers and 630 thousand sq m of flower beds to decorate the city during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, particularly in the vicinities of the Olympic stadiums and gyms, as well as star-rated hotels and famous tourist resorts."I promise that all the flower beds will be innovatively designed, and they will be impressive enough to reflect the sportsmanship of the athletes and display the vigor of modern Beijing," said Dong Ruilong, the director of Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau. According to Dong, flowers will cover at least 10% of greenbelts in those "key areas" mentioned above. BOCOG and the Gardening and Greening Bureau are currently working hard to make the final flower-placing plan.All the flowers, trees and grasses will be carefully selected. For example, the girth of trees around major Olympic stadiums and gyms must be between 15 cm and 20cm.Besides, a new forestation project covering the entire Beijing will be launched soon, to ensure that there will be "green" Olympic Games in 2008. At present, the preparations for the project are going on without a hitch.
