Chinanews, Changsha, June 4 – Hunan provincial government and the China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II) signed a cooperative agreement last week to jointly build an aviation city in Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan, the Changsha Evening News reported. An aircraft landing gear will be built in Changsha as part of the aviation city. In order to do so, AVIC II has restructured two of its subsidiary companies, the Hunan Xiangling Machine Company and the Shaanxi Liaoyuan Aviation Mechanical Manufacturing Company, and absorbed the Zhongnan University to jointly establish the Zhonghang Aircraft Landing Gear Production Company. The new company aims to build itself into a world top-class aircraft landing gear production center. The establishment of the new center will help boost the development of related industries, such as product research, manufacturing, sales, and the production of affiliated services in Changsha. The new company will actively participate in the research and production of civil and military aircraft. Its production will be based on the potential needs of the nation's giant airplane project, the production of the new generation of fighter planes, giant planes and giant freight planes. While meeting domestic aircraft production demand, the new company will also try to expand its shares in international market and explore the subcontract production market. The new company plans to invest 3.5 billion yuan in the next few years.Furthermore, the aviation city will build an aircraft research and manufacturing center in Zhuzhou, which will mainly produce engines for small and medium-sized planes. The China Zhuzhou Aviation Power Plant Research Institute, the China Southern Aviation Industry Company, the Changsha Transmission Machinery Works, and the China Aviation Industry No.3 Design Research Institute will be the main bodies of the aviation center in Zhuzhou. By relying on their existing production capacity, these manufacturing and research bodies will work together to build themselves as an aircraft engine manufacturing base and a comprehensive aviation garden well-known both at home and abroad.
